Accell Group Bankruptcy: What Does This Mean for Your Lease Bike?

It was recently announced that the Accell Group, the parent company behind well known bicycle brands such as Batavus, Sparta, and Koga, has been declared bankrupt. At Lease a Bike, we think it is important to inform you transparently about this. In this article we explain what this situation means for the current lease bike offer, ongoing lease contracts, and the best alternatives if you are looking for a new lease bike.

Were you already orienting yourself towards a specific bicycle and are you wondering if this brand is affected? The following brands fall under the Accell Group and you can currently no longer sign a lease contract for them:

• Batavus

• Sparta

• Koga

• Carqon

• Raleigh

• Babboe

• Winora

• Haibike

• Lapierre

When signing a new lease contract, we want to offer the certainty of a full manufacturer warranty and guaranteed delivery. Due to the situation surrounding the Accell Group, long term support from the manufacturer is currently uncertain.

To avoid any ambiguity or risks regarding delivery and manufacturer warranty, we are not accepting new contracts for these brands. Regular maintenance and general repairs naturally remain fully possible for current riders with a bicycle from one of the Accell Group brands at our affiliated bicycle shops.

We are closely monitoring the news regarding a possible restart. As soon as there is sufficient long term certainty from the manufacturer again, we will make a well considered decision on whether to add these brands back to our platform.

For those who are already riding an Accell brand bicycle, nothing changes in practice. Your 36 month contract remains in full effect, and you can still visit your local bicycle shop for maintenance or repairs just as you are used to.

If your bicycle is unexpectedly stolen, it is unfortunately not possible to choose the same brand again due to the current situation. In that case, we will look together for an equivalent alternative from another brand, or you can terminate the contract.
